America Is A Great Honor - 1258 Words

People always state that living in America is a privilege, that we are all free and capable of doing anything you set your mind to. To me, being â€Å"free† in America doesn’t mean that you are actually free. Being free means that we are not told or controlled by the power of another. I always felt that I wasn’t free to do anything I wanted to do, which takes me to where I am today. I never took being in America seriously and took advantage of it. In the last five years of my life, I learned that being in America is a great honor. I also have learned to take advantage of the opportunities presented to me. It all started from my parents, then going to Vietnam, and now where I am today, college. It showed me that I should be grateful for where I am now. My parents always encouraged my siblings and I that we were capable of doing anything that we set our minds to. It didn’t matter where or what we wanted to do; all that mattered was if we had the pas sion to do it and succeed. From that, I was always set on becoming a doctor. It didn’t matter what kind; I just knew I wanted to help people. From a young age, I knew that my parents worked hard so that my siblings and I might have a better life than my parents. Both of my parents came from Vietnam with little to nothing. They both got jobs at Excel before they were twenty, and, after ten years, they met each other and got married.
